Helpful Hints...

Here are some helpful hints I'd like to share. For me, writing in general has to have music, usually using my I-pod, and it has to be done in otherwise complete silence. I write best sitting in a chair and typing at a desk. Lying or sprawling on the floor hurts my arms, and it's too easy to drift off to sleep. Or day-dreaming.

Ok, so here are some very helpful planning sites that I compiled.

A planning print out: http://silveragebooks.myby.co.uk/mag/ns/issues/NS2007.pdf
A long character profile: http://www.squidoo.com/CharacterProfiles
World-planning for fantasy writers: http://www.elfwood.com/farp/thewriting/liljenbergworlds/liljenbergworlds.html

On to other news! New layout. Still some things I need to fix, so bear with me. For anyone else doing NaNo, are you really far into planning? I only have a skeletal plot and characters. My world-building is going well, I'm stuck on time though. I hope I can get enough time in November to win!

I hope you enjoy the links; I might not update tommorow. If I don't, see you Friday, or perhaps Sunday at the latest.

Ooh, love the new layout.

I write best when I'm lying bed, head propped up on pillows and laptop on my lap. If my lights are on then I battle to fall asleep, and anyway, that's what caffeine is for!

I was very far into my planning yesterday. I'd planned each chapter, and every scene in each chapter. All I had to do was write them. And today I deleted all those plans.

But it's okay. I have 2 more weeks to plan it, and it will probably change anyway. Between yesterday and today I've scrapped every character but one, and put in a bathtub. I'm not sure if the bathtub is a character in its own right though.

If you're really into planning everything down to the last detail, you should try out Writer's Cafe 2. There's a free demo version, and apparently that has limited features so I'm a bit nervous of it. The best free software I've been able to find is yWriter, which lets you set a goal, crisis and outcome for each scene, which is great for developing your plot.

Take care.

Last year I had a serious case of writer's block. Needless to say, I failed miserably. That's why I'm planning so much this year. And I don't drink coffee, at least not until I'm sure it won't stunt my growth. I like caffienated chocolate and coffee cake though!

I can't believe there's still two whole weeks. I'm planning for three MC (main characters) and plotting each chapter. I have this large planning notebook to keep track of everything from characters to maps to magic systems. =) It sounds like you might be a perfectionist with it, if you tossed out all your plans. I'm kind of one too.

Good luck with your planning!

Hm. Planning--let's just say that my current outline has enough plot holes to drive a mack truck through it. And I'm totally not worried. My methods are usually a mix between have some kind of idea of where to go and enough flexibility to meander to the hinterlands if I so wish.
